Our Heritage

The Founders

Prof. Greg Stamboulidis

Founder & Managing Director

Born in Greece and proudly calling Australia home, Greg first arrived in Australia at just 18 months old. After spending part of his childhood back in Greece, he returned for a second time to Australia as an early teenager, where he grew up and developed a strong work ethic and an enduring drive to build something meaningful.

He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science majoring in Chemistry, followed by a Diploma of Education specialising in Mathematics and Chemistry from Monash University. Greg later completed a PhD in Business Strategy at La Trobe University, where he also occasionally lectures MBA students, sharing his experience in strategy, leadership, and business development.

Greg has played a prominent leadership role in the seafood industry, serving as Secretary of the Fishmongers Association of Victoria and Chairman of Seafood Services Victoria, cementing his reputation as a respected and influential voice in the sector.

His vision and boldness to take risks, execute calculated strategy and lead the way have transformed an idea into a lasting legacy.

He is a passionate supporter and sponsor of education and community initiatives, proudly backing organisations such as La Trobe University, Columbia University, the Greek Orthodox Church, Heidelberg United FC, Football Victoria, the Dardalis Archives, and the Hellenic Museum — all of which reflect his deepest personal passions and interests.

Nick Athanasopoulos

Co-Founder & Technical Director

Nick served as an essential core pillar of the operation, expertly managing the machinery, processes, and the entire manufacturing facility with unwavering precision and commitment. His licences and expertise in refrigeration, stainless steel craftsmanship, and computing made him an indispensable force behind the growth and success of Stambo's.

A hands-on Chemistry graduate in Applied Science/Chemistry from Swinburne University of Technology, Nick built an impressive career at GBC Scientific Equipment, where he played a pivotal role in the global export of atomic absorption spectrometers. In this capacity, he delivered specialised, high-security lectures and technical training to government armed forces, universities, and hospitals across the United States, South Africa, Turkey, India, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

Born in Greece, Nick came to Australia as an 8 year old boy with little more than determination and a willingness to work hard. He quickly immersed himself in emerging computer distribution systems, as well as the school canteen and fish-and-chip sectors, building opportunities from the ground up. His immigrant journey stands as a powerful testament to what perseverance, skill, and grit can achieve.

That same passionate, professional, and hands-on spirit defined everything he did, and his contribution to Stambo's will always be remembered.
